From there we went on to our hotel, Hotel Wellington. We were so lucky to have such a great location. We were on seventh and 56th, just north of Times Square. When we walked in the lobby it was gorgeous. Grand chandeliers, elegant mirrors, and classy elevators.
As we were give our room assignment, we became aware of the "East Tower" which is where our accomodations would be, unlike the rest of the group which was in the main part of the hotel. The elevator in the east tower didn't even fit all of us in at the same time, not to mention the awkward back hallway to get there in the first place. I still have no clue why the four of us were banished to the tower, but thankfully we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. It was definately a lot different than any hotel the four of us had ever been in.
This is Times Square on the first night. We met some interesting people in the Bank of America and got serenaded by a few crazy men, then had an all too American dinner at ... wait for it... Applebees. I know, I know. Sadly, it was one of the best restaurant experiences we had.
The second day started early with a LONG bus tour with the big group. First we went uptown, through Harlem, over to the east side, and all the way down 5th Avenue. This took us around central park, then down through the Village, and Soho, Chinatown, and the Financial District. Here we got out and took some pictures at the park of the Statue of Liberty in the distance. Many people said that the ferry out to it wasn't what they had hoped for, so we opted out.
We were back on the bus and stopped at the United Nations where we officially left the United States of America without a passport. (Though I do have one if anyone needs a travel buddy!)
The bus tour was a good way to see a lot of sites in a relatively short amount of time, and was a great opportunity to take a quick nap during traffic.
